Red cricket balls are the standard for all longer-format cricket - four-day, two-day and traditional red-ball league matches at club, county and representative level. The red leather develops shine with use that is essential for conventional swing bowling, and has been the format's standard for over a century for exactly that reason. Choosing the right grade matters: a ball that does not hold its shape, seam height or hardness through an innings creates uneven conditions for both sides. This collection covers our full red ball range, from the Test A Grade 2-layer for club and recreational cricket through to the Super Test full cork ball and premium Test Special 5-layer for serious league and representative play.
Why Choose Our Red Cricket Balls?
- Three Construction Grades: The Test A Grade 2-layer, Super Test full cork and Test Special 5-layer cover every level from recreational cricket through to serious league and county-standard play.
- Consistent Seam Performance: All balls are constructed with a pronounced, durable seam that maintains height across a full innings - giving bowlers fair opportunity to generate movement throughout.
- Correct Adult Weight Specification: All balls meet the standard adult weight range (155.9g–163g) for competitive play, clearly labelled on each product page.

Key Features
- Premium Leather Construction: Red cricket balls use vegetable-tanned leather quarters stitched over a layered cork core - the construction standard for swing and seam conditions.
- Seam Height Retention: The Super Test full cork and Test Special 5-layer maintain seam height through a full innings, giving bowlers consistent conditions from first over to last.
- Grade-Matched Options: The Test A Grade 2-layer for club and recreational cricket; premium options for leagues where ball quality directly affects match outcomes.
How to Choose Red Cricket Balls
Match the grade to your level of play. The Test A Grade 2-layer is the right choice for club recreational cricket, junior matches and leather ball net practice. The Super Test full cork and Test Special 5-layer are for serious club leagues and representative cricket where both teams expect consistent ball behaviour throughout.
Never use match balls for net practice. Net surfaces shred leather and flatten the seam in a fraction of the time it takes in a match. See our full cricket balls range for dedicated practice ball options, and reserve match-grade balls for match day.
Replace balls regularly. A ball that has lost its shape, seam height or hardness does not behave predictably. For competitive cricket, one new ball per match is the minimum standard.
Red vs white - know when red applies. Red balls are for longer-format cricket. For limited-overs formats, see our white cricket balls collection. Competition rules determine which colour applies.
