The layers refer to the cork core construction. The Test A Grade 2-layer is cost-effective for club and recreational cricket. The Test Special 5-layer has a denser core giving better shape retention, consistent bounce and longer swing life - qualities that matter in serious match cricket.

At club level, a ball typically serves a full innings (around 40–50 overs) before significant deterioration. A ball that has lost its shape, seam or hardness should be replaced. Use the Test Special 5-layer for matches where you need maximum ball longevity.
