Frequently asked questions

Padman shorts are a padded compression base layer worn under cricket trousers. They integrate thigh pad, hip pad and groin protection into a single garment, removing the need for separate strap-on thigh pads. Adult and junior sizes use moisture-wicking fabric and high-density foam.

Padman shorts don't slip during running between wickets and sit flatter under cricket whites, which most players prefer. Strap-on pads are cheaper and adjustable mid-match, but for regular adult batters, the fit-and-forget convenience of Padman shorts is worth the higher price.

Standard Padman shorts use match-spec medium-density foam and are suitable for general club cricket. Enhanced-padding versions with higher-density foam suit batters facing 80mph+ bowling or wicketkeepers standing back. Check the foam specification for your intended use.

Padman shorts are sized like compression shorts - snug against the body. Measure your waist in inches and match our size chart. Shorts too loose allow padding to shift; shorts too tight restrict circulation during long innings. Junior sizes are shaped for a developing body.

Machine wash cold and tumble dry low, or air dry. Do not iron the padded panels - heat compresses the foam permanently and reduces protection. A well-cared-for pair of Padman shorts lasts two to three full seasons of regular cricket.
