FAQs

A cricket bat gripping cone is a tapered plastic tool used to fit new bat grips. The cone stretches the grip wide enough to slide over the handle, where it rolls into position without tearing. Using a cone turns grip-fitting from a ten-minute job into two minutes.
Strongly recommended. Without a cone, fitting a grip means stretching the rubber around the handle by hand, which is fiddly and usually tears the grip. A cone costs £2-4 and pays for itself on the first grip change - you'll save the price in avoided torn grips.
A standard gripping cone fits every adult and junior cricket bat handle of normal diameter - bat handles are consistent across brands. Oversized cones exist for bats with deliberately thick handles or when fitting a thicker oversized grip.
The terms are used interchangeably. A cricket bat gripping cone and a cricket bat grip applicator are the same tapered plastic tool used to stretch and fit a new grip. Some brands prefer 'applicator'; the product is identical.
A gripping cone is a one-off purchase that lasts indefinitely - the plastic is not exposed to ball impact or weather and has no wear points under normal use. Keep it in your kit bag for immediate grip changes during the season.
